SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

LA SOFTBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year the LSCA awards a minimum of two scholarships per year. At least one scholarship each year will be awarded to a graduating senior of an LSCA member’s high school softball team. At least one scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior or a post-secondary student that is a family member of a LSCA member. This scholarship will be known as the Anne Marie Burgard Memorial Scholarship. Other Scholarships may be awarded based on availability of funds.
Winners will be announced at the All Star Banquet.

In 2003, the LSCA started awarding two scholarships of $500 per year. The scholarship amount was raised to $1,000 in later years.

ARTICLE XIII – SCHOLARSHIPS

Sec.1 Each year the LSCA will offer two $1000 scholarships for post-secondary education. The LSCA may offer more scholarships of varying amounts if approved by the Executive Board.

Sec.2 A committee consisting of a chairman and committee members shall be appointed by the President. The chairman shall secure three readers to be part of the selection committee. These readers may not be members of the LSCA. The chairman shall verify that each application contains the information listed in Sec. 5. The chairman will send each reader a copy of the applications with the name and school removed from the application.

Sec.3 These scholarships are available to any graduating senior of a LSCA member’s high school softball team or to any child of an LSCA member provided that the coach has been a member of LSCA for at least 3 consecutive years (including the current year of application)

Sec.4 One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of a LSCA member’s high school softball team. The other scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior or a post-secondary student. This student must be a family member of a LSCA member. This scholarship will be known as the “Anne Marie Burgard Memorial Scholarship”. More scholarship(s) may be awarded in each area if approved by the Executive Board.

Sec.5 In order to apply, the student must have a 2.5 GPA and must meet criteria stated in Sec. 3 and Sec. 4 above. The applicant must send in the following: a completed application form, a copy of an official transcript, and 2 letters of recommendation from a principal, coach, athletic director, or teacher. The application form must clearly be marked as to if the student is a Player of a LSCA member school and/or a Family Member of a LSCA member.

Sec.6 If an applicant does not receive one of the scholarships on his/her initial application, the application will remain on file. However, the applicant must re-apply to be considered in the following years.

Sec.7 The deadline for application will be set by the scholarship committee.

Sec.8 The scholarships will be awarded at the All Star Banquet.

LA HIGH SCHOOL COACHES (ALL COACHES) ASSOCIATION STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

“The LHSCA shall award four (4) $1,000 scholarships to four (4) qualified and deserving high school graduates. The scholarship is intended to assist qualified graduates to further their education at the college or university level.”

ELIGIBILITY: (1) All applicants must be the son, daughter or legally adopted child of a member of the LHSCA. All applicants must also be nominated by a current or past member of the LHSCA, and applications must be signed by current school Principal. Said member must have belonged to the LHSCA for the five year period just prior to the submission of the scholarship application. Children of deceased members are eligible to apply if member belonged to the LHSCA the five years just prior to death. (2) Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited high school. (3) Each applicant must show ample evidence he/she is capable of succeeding at the college level (TRANSCRIPT, GPA, RANK IN CLASS, ACT or SAT SCORES).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: (1) Evidence must be submitted to the Secretary-Treasurer of the LHSCA that the applicant has been accepted into an accredited institute of higher education. This evidence must be certified by the school registrar. When this certification is in the hands of the Secretary-Treasurer of the LHSCA, the scholarship money will be deposited with the institution selected and be used for any educational purposes (fees, room and board, books, tuition, etc.). (2) There will be no discrimination as to sex, race, creed or nationality. (3) This scholarship, in addition to other grants of financial aid such as scholarships, loans, grants, or work study, cannot exceed the total cost of the educational expenses listed above. (4) Any individual will be limited to one $1,000 scholarship from the LHSCA.

APPLICATIONS: Application must be mailed to the LHSAA Marketing Department by Friday, March 6, 2015. Final selection will be made by the selection committee during the month of March. The winners will be presented at the Annual Coaches’ School General Business meeting.
